F&ST (Families
and Schools Together)
Families and Schools Together depends on the energy, enthusiasm
and organization of volunteers for its success. Teachers, parents,
and community members volunteer in this community and school-based
program. Already in a number of schools in London and Strathroy,
Family Service Thames Valley's F&ST program is continuously searching
for new schools to become involved.
Families and Schools Together is an innovative, collaborative prevention/early
intervention program for families with children four to ten years.
Whole families gather and participate in specific, enjoyable, research-based
activities at their child's school. These activities are aimed at
strengthening families and empowering parents. Families become involved
when one or more of their children is identified by the school as
having academic or behaviour problems which put the child at risk
of developing more serious problems later in their lives. As well
as providing parents an opportunity to become more involved with
the school, the program offers whole families the support they need
to help their children do well at school and in the community.
